Google Acquires Photography App Developer Nik Software
Google has acquired Nik Software, the developers of the popular photo app Snapseed and various other photography related applications such as HDR Efex and Color Efex Pro 4.
“We are pleased to announce that Google has acquired Nik Software. For nearly 17 years, we’ve been guided by our motto, “photography first”, as we worked to build world class digital image editing tools. We’ve always aspired to share our passion for photography with everyone, and with Google’s support we hope to be able to help many millions more people create awesome pictures.”

As photography is a hobby of mine, I use Nik Software plugins all the time in Lightroom and they are some of the best around, especially in HDR processing. When you hear a company like Google has acquired another company you usually think that’s the end for some of their products. Google obviously wants Snapseed, but many photographers on Google+ today expressed concern over what will happen to other products that Nik Software develops.
I too voiced my concern and received a reply from Vic Gundotra, Senior VP at Google.
I was surprised he commented and I appreciate the response which is definitely reassuring to customers and fans of Nik Software.
