Those of you who use the professional network LinkedIn will be happy to know they have released an app for Windows Phone. As usual, this app makes great use of Metro and is another great addition to the lineup of Windows Phone apps.

With the LinkedIn app you can check your inbox, groups, look up your contacts, and more.

LinkedIn (free) can be downloaded from the Windows Marketplace.

Sparrow 1.2 for iPhone

Sparrow mail for the iPhone has been updated to version 1.2 today. This update brings new features and bug fixes.

New features include:

Swipe to navigate mailbox messages
Edit and create folders/labels
Compose in landscape mode
More language support.

Push notifications have been a big feature request, and they have more info about Push which will require a yearly subscription.

You were more than 16 000 helping us on our Apple quest to get the VoIP privilege. We can’t thank you enough for your support. Unfortunately, Apple has confirmed that they are not willing to do any exception to the rule and that Sparrow will NOT be granted with the privilege. This means we’ll have to do Push on our side and that it will be integrated as a yearly subscription into Sparrow’s future update.

This is a free update to current users, and can be purchased in the App Store.

Mac OS X 10.7.4 Update

Apple released the OS X 10.7.4 update today. This is a maintenance fix with a variety of system fixes for OS X Lion.

Includes:

Resolve an issue where the “Reopen windows when logging back in” setting is always enabled
Improve compatibility with certain British third-party USB keyboards
Address an issue that may prevent files from being saved to a server
Improve the reliability of copying files to an SMB server

Amazon Introduces Free Cloud Drive Desktop App

Amazon has released a free desktop app for its cloud drive for both PC and Mac. This allows you to easily download and upload files to and from your Amazon Cloud Drive.

If you don’t have already an Amazon account, it’s free and you get 5GB to start with. Other packages are available for a nominal charge.

Other features include:

Easily upload your photos, documents, videos and other files
Drag and drop files and folders to the Cloud Drive icon
Right-click any file or folder and send to Amazon Cloud Drive
Easy download of one or more files and folders from Cloud Drive
Uploads and downloads run in the background
Continue using your computer as you normally would, the app can handle restarts and lost internet connections without losing your data
You can pause and resume at any time

SkyDrive Gets Updates, New Apps, and New Storage Plans

This is a huge day for SkyDrive as several big improvements and features launched today. We knew SkyDrive is going to have great integration with Windows 8, but today we can have some of that with Windows 7 and other platforms as well.

The SkyDrive blog on MSDN gives the details:

SkyDrive for the Windows desktop (preview available now). View and manage your personal SkyDrive directly from Windows Explorer on Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista with this new preview app available in 106 languages worldwide.
Fetching files through SkyDrive.com. Easily access, browse, and stream files from a remote PC running the preview app to just about anywhere by simply fetching them via SkyDrive.com.
SkyDrive storage updates. A new, more flexible approach to personal cloud storage that allows power users to get additional paid storage as their needs grow.
SkyDrive for other devices. We’ve updated the SkyDrive apps on Windows Phone and iOS devices, bringing better management features and sharing options to those devices. We’re also releasing a new preview client for Mac OS X Lion, letting you manage your SkyDrive right from the Finder.

If you were a previous user of SkyDrive, be sure to also claim your free 25GB of storage! There should be a link near the top when you login via the web interface. SkyDrive was always great, but lacked a solid integration with the OS, now that is solved and takes a big step forward.

Skype 1.0 Available Now for Windows Phone

The Skype app for Windows Phone has been available as a beta for a few months, and today marks the official release of Skype 1.0 for Windows Phone.

More language support has been added along with several features.

Some of these include:

portrait mode video calling
support for joining audio conference calls
call-in-progress notifications
block and unblock contacts
add new contacts

Windows Phone users can download from the Marketplace.
